Now, back to our own progress … Lot 98. Today they began to load up the foundation with the layer of pea gravel on which the slab will “float.” You can see the piles of gravel placed around the inside of the stem wall. More will be poured in, and it will be spread evenly within the walls (with a liner of styrofoam between the gravel and the wall) — like frosting a cake. Next, it will be evened out near the top of the retaining stem wall — like running a knife across the top of a measuring cup of flour to make sure it’s level. Now that I have you heading off to the kitchen to bake a cake, just know that the following step will be to place a plastic liner over the top of the evened gravel. This will be the cover/liner upon which the slab is poured.
